3 Art Deco EGYPTIAN 935S ENAMEL Scenic Cufflinks Pair + Single Sterling Pyramid+
Egyptian Revival at its Best!  Highly detailed, in incredible colors, these vintage Egyptian vermeil (gold plated sterling) and enamel cufflinks are Fabulous.  This lot consists of a pair of cufflinks and one single.  On one face is a Pyramid (almost certainly one of those at Giza) with a man riding a camel in the foreground on one side and tall palms on the other.  On the other two is an arched temple gate (I think is the one at Karnak).  Despite the small scale of his "canvas", the artist managed to provide a wealth of details, including depth and perspective.  I was amazed by close examination of the hieroglyphics depicted on the gates.  And the shading on one side of the pyramid and (inside) entrance wall of the gates brilliantly conveys depth and dimension.
The links date from around the 1920s - 30s, the Art Deco period when Egyptian Revival was all the rage following the discovery of King Tut's tomb in 1922 and may have been a treasured souvenir of someone's Grand Tour in Egypt around that time.  Jewelry makers and other artists have been inspired by the motifs of the ancient Egyptians for centuries and these cufflinks with their iconic monuments of the ancient ruins are a wonderful, wearable example of Egyptian Revival.
The hexagonal faces measure about 3/4" tall by about 7/16" wide and the tapering backs, about 13/16" long.  They vary slightly but each weighs a little over 2 grams.  Having three of these provides lots of options.  Best is, if you lose one, you will still have a pair.  And while I think the pair is the pyramid mated with the gate with a salmon colored entrance wall (photos 2 through 8), one could wear the pyramid with the other gate (photo 11) or both gates together (photo 10).  And the single would look great worn in your lapel button hole when it is not on your cuff.
They are gilded silver and two of them are hallmarked on the ring nearest the back as shown in the photo of the backs: "935" for silver content and "K" preceded by a number (which likely refers to the gold plating).  Various links of the connecting chains on all three also bear Egyptian hallmarks.  They acid test as sterling.
The cufflinks are all in Very Good vintage condition with just expected dirt, surface scratches and minor inconsistencies in the making that only add to their charm.  They have acquired tarnish and the gilding has faded to a warm golden glow over time, giving them a lovely vintage patina; cleaning and polishing are left to the buyer's discretion.
These cuff links will make a super addition to a collection of cufflinks, Egyptian Revival or jewelry.  Although I doubt you will want to part with them, they would make a terrific gift and will come to you in a gift box, just in case.  A striking and interesting conversation piece to wear that will bring the romance and allure of ancient Egypt to your wardrobe and your collection as well.  And remember, there are three of them.  To paraphrase Steve Martin's great song, they'll stand in line to see 'em; you'll need your own museum.  King Tut!  So don't be a nut falling prey to the eBay curse - (not clicking Buy-it-Now, of course!).  Nothing could be worse.  Tut, Tut!
